Why do my expense categories matter?

Categories decide what counts as cost of goods sold rather than overhead, and that split is what the Profit page and Des's margin answers are built on. If your margin looks wrong, this is the first screen to check — a category counted on the wrong side moves gross margin for every period that reads it.
