Why the category matters
Expenses go into the categories a tax return asks for. One category feeds the tax estimate, the job margin and the health score at the same time.

Which categories count as job costs
COGS means job costs, such as materials and crew hours. Overhead means running costs, such as business insurance. Each category is one or the other, for the whole business.

Worth knowingAsk “would this cost exist if I had no jobs this month?” — if yes, it is overhead.
